This week I had the opportunity to deliver hand made blankets made by Project Linus “blanketeers” to the Kennedy-Krieger Hospital, in Baltimore. When I was helping to put together the VCSHC Holiday Guide to Giving I was particularly interested in their mission, which is,
“…to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer ‘blanketeers.’”
There are hundreds of chapters across the country that help carry out this mission by gathering volunteers willing to donate their time and skill to fabricating beautiful hand made blankets for children in need of comfort and solace. The blankets are usually distributed to local pediatric hospitals but are also brought to shelters or social services agencies.
Maryland is home to nine local chapters, including one here in Howard County. If you are interested in learning more about Project Linus or how you can get involved and help, please visit the Project Linus website. Interested in our local chapter? Please contact Arlene Kutz.

Thank you for your help in delivering blankets and also for the lovely blog post. Volunteer support is essential for us to get blankets to sick or traumatized children.
