Leave Your Mark
Never underestimate the impact that a child can have on their community or world around them. I declare this the lesson of the day after reading about our very own Jacob Krause (Clarksville, MD), who with the help of his parents organized a Basketball Free Throw Tournament and Silent Auction to benefit Pediatric research for the Crohns/Colitis Foundation of America. When asked how he came up with such an idea, he replied,
“I wanted to have a fund raiser to help other kids who have what I have. I knew that basketball would be something fun and that my friends would really like.”

At the humble age of nine Jacob was the visionary behind this event, and because of his commitment and dedication over $14,000 was raised! However, this was not his first fundraising endeavor. Prior to the event, Jacob had already
raised approximately $16,000 for the cause. When asked to describe what made him most proud, he commented,
“The entire event made me proud, but I am proud that people learned something about Crohn’s & Colitis, had so much fun, and that many said they want to come back next year.”
Jacob was recently recognized by Kids Are Heroes. Be sure to check out their website to learn more about their mission and to learn more about how kids these days are leaving their mark.
